What is Satire ?

Satire has a rich and complex history, however, it has avoided a definitive description, why this discrepancy ? What is the contemporary definition of satire? especially in a technological age were satire is seemingly everywhere, hosting a thousand interpretations. Why do I use  the construct of satire in my work, what relevance has it to painting? why now, what is contemporary satires relevance ? is it propaganda? where do my ideas come from?
